A Boy's Best Friend

It's crazy to me that we have 2 toddlers in our house!  Remington will be 2 in September, which I can hardly believe… And Lucy just turned 3 in June!  Dogs count as toddlers, right?!  Well, rather than planning another birthday party for Lucy… Yes, yes, you read that correctly.  I've had birthday parties for Lucy, just one actually.   Granted, aside from myself, the only other guest was our cat, Lola.  It was for her 1st birthday.  I blame it on being pregnant and stir crazy!  Last year, Remington and I sang Happy Birthday and took her for a walk.  So this year, we were even more low key about it all.  Even though she's not allowed on the furniture, I did include the very chair that we bought the day we found Lucy.  And gosh, she has changed since some of her earliest photos at 8 weeks old!    I still remember when she used to curl up on my shoulder and snooze while I edited photos!  It was so sweet!  Little did I know that she would show me a tiny glimpse of what it might be like to be a mother, with a tiny, precious being cuddled up in my arms.  And now these two are great friends!  Remington likes to chase her more than she would prefer, but it's just because he loves her so!  Her antics make him giggle and screech, which in turn makes her bark…which in turn makes him laugh even more.  Although it's nap time in the house right now (Lucy and Lola nap when Remington naps!), I can still hear their giggles and arffs echoing in the living room.  And it makes my heart full.

I've always loved her expressive eyes!

What I didn't expect was Remington and Lucy to sit together!
I think he will love this photo when he's older!
It took some coaxing to get Lucy to get on the chair, let alone to sit there for a few photos!
Luckily, I had some help!  More on this in a minute!

Remington learned the word "Up!" that day, and climbed right onto the chair to show Lucy what to do!

After Lucy had eaten all the treats I had set aside, Remington borrowed a few poses from Lucy! ;)

Happy 3rd Birthday, Lucy!  We love you!
Thank you for being a sweet and loving pup and for becoming such a good friend to Remington!

Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Today is our pup Lucy's 2nd birthday!  It's hard to believe that she is already 2 years old!  This time last year, I was a couple of months away from having our baby boy, so I wanted to spoil Lucy a bit!  I recall being at one of my baby showers and telling my friends and family that I was going to throw Lucy a pretty pink party... and several people raised their eyebrows and said, "Really?!"  The part I had forgotten to mention was that I was going to photograph it all just for fun!  I made a few decorations, like flag banners and party hats, one for Lucy and one for Lola.  I bought some cute treats for the birthday pup from Three Dog Bakery, because you can't have a party without some sort of cake or cookies!  I used our dining room in our small apartment for the fete.  Little did I know what I was getting myself into!  Decorating took a little longer than I had anticipated.  Perhaps it was the smell of the sweet treats that caused all the chaos, because chaos definitely ensued!  Lucy and Lola were antagonizing each other the entire time, it's a wonder I have any photos to share at all!  Ha!  After this soiree, I was completely exhausted!  Most of my time was spent preparing and then cleaning up after the (very short!) party ended!  I'm chalking it up to a learning experience for future birthday parties! Somehow I think (and hope!) throwing a party for Remington will be much easier than it will be for a dog and a cat!  This year was much more low-key.  Remington and I did sing Happy Birthday this morning before taking her for a walk!  We celebrated by not celebrating!  Just a few photos of Lucy on her special day.  Here are some favorites from the day from last year and this year!

Lucy waited so patiently for the festivities to begin!  ;)

Aren't these treats cute?  They look delicious - Lucy enjoyed them!
Actually, she just tried a few...I froze some for a special treat at a later date!

Picking out a favorite!

Finally!  It was time to taste some birthday cake!
She was so good and let me take a few photos of her before diving in!

Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Neither Lucy nor Lola wore the pretty pink hats I made for them!

Lucy checked for more treats!

One year later...Lucy is 2!  Happy Birthday to you!

This year, she simply enjoyed one of her favorite bones.

She really is a sweet dog, and she's really good with her little brother Remington.
And he just adores her too!

Ending with my favorite!

I can't help but laugh at myself for (1) planning a party for a cat and dog!
                                                                      (2) photographing it like it was a mini-wedding!
and (3) actually posting these!
As I mentioned, I was pregnant, and just wanted to spoil our sweet girl!
It really was fun...despite the antics between Lucy and Lola!
I do admit to rewarding both with several treats - besides Lucy's birthday pupcake - to keep the peace!

Have you ever had a party for a pet?  If so, I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Happy Wednesday!

Happy 1st Birthday, Lucy!

Pin It Dear Lucy,

A year ago, a sweet little puppy was born.  Six weeks later, two people who had longed for a puppy of their own found her.  It was a hot July afternoon, and you were huddled in the back of a crate that was way too big for you.  At first we left, not knowing that you were available to take home.  As we drove half way home, we couldn't stop talking about you.  We made a u-turn and hurried back to where you were, eagerly inquiring about the cute little puppy.  The kind man said that yes, you were, indeed, in search of a new home.  As we opened the crate and I held you in my arms, I knew you had to be ours.  We were instantly smitten!  At just 5 little pounds, you stole our hearts, and I couldn't help but stare at you as you feel asleep on my lap in the car on the way home.  We had to make a stop at the store to get you some food, a dish, some toys, and treats.  I got a text from Reggie saying he knew he'd be in trouble when we have kids...because he was filling the cart with dog stuff!  We couldn't wait to take you to your new home to meet Lola.  At first, she didn't know what to think.  However, over this past year, you two have become great friends... at least I like to think so!  Even though house-training was quite a task, and at times, seemed nearly impossible, you did it!  You love going on trips in the car, spending time at Grammy and Grampy's, visiting the beach and digging holes in the sand, running through leaves, hiking in the park, chasing Lola around the house, shaking paws for treats, and snuggling at our feet at night.  You are such a joy, and we love you so much!

Happy 1st Birthday, Lucy!

xoxo,

Stephanie, Reggie + Lola

Kitty Treats, Marshmallows + Note to Self

Pin It It's been a little while since Lola and Lucy made an appearance on the blog.  Lucy has grown quite a bit, while Lola has pretty much stayed the same!  These two both make me laugh every day with the way they interact.  One will be napping, and the other will tip-toe over to sniff the snoozing one.  Then a chase ensues and they zip all through the house!  A few times a day, Lucy will do sprints back and forth, from one end of the house to the other, and then lay down and take a nap.  I found that she likes to be cheered on as she races...or at least it seems that way!   Without further adieu, here are some of my favorites from our brief session the other day, thanks to some kitty treats and marshmallows (Lucy's favorite!).  **Note to Self:  Next time, ease in to the marshmallow treats...they made for an even more hyperactive puppy!**

This one melts my heart!  Lola really can be a sweetheart when she wants to be!

Usually Lola isn't fond of having too many photos taken, but this afternoon was an exception.

Oh, Lucy!  I want this photo of you on my desk!!!

Tied as a favorite of Lola!  She really worked it for some treats! ;)

Happy Friday!
