That One Time I Got A New Camera for Christmas

As many of you know, my husband Reggie is a super-talented and creative guy.  He loves working on BMWs, as well as special interest cars, like old GMC and Chevy trucks, vintage MGs, cars of all kinds.  Some of you have seen his sculptures over the years too.  We used to have a table made from an engine block that ran for the last time at the track during a driving school.  It will soon be for sale, since it's not the most toddler-friendly coffee table around!  He's also made a taller cocktail type table, a cat, a dog …all out of recycled BMW parts that he keeps around at his shop.  They are all so cool and so unique!  Well, this Christmas, I unwrapped a camera box, which he found in the basement, and inside was another one of his hand-crafted pieces…a camera!  I couldn't believe it!  I was totally surprised and totally flattered by this one-of-a-kind work of art, complete with a rotating lens!

I love that the shutter is a nod to old school film cameras.  Using a 35mm, Reggie studied photography in high school learned to process his own film in the darkroom.

A friend of ours has commissioned Reggie to build a similar camera as a gift to her husband!

I love his perspective on the world, and how he always sees things in a different light.  I'm so blessed to be married to such a imaginative, inspiring, and supportive man, who continually encourages me to chase my dreams.  I love you, Reggie!

Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Today is our pup Lucy's 2nd birthday!  It's hard to believe that she is already 2 years old!  This time last year, I was a couple of months away from having our baby boy, so I wanted to spoil Lucy a bit!  I recall being at one of my baby showers and telling my friends and family that I was going to throw Lucy a pretty pink party... and several people raised their eyebrows and said, "Really?!"  The part I had forgotten to mention was that I was going to photograph it all just for fun!  I made a few decorations, like flag banners and party hats, one for Lucy and one for Lola.  I bought some cute treats for the birthday pup from Three Dog Bakery, because you can't have a party without some sort of cake or cookies!  I used our dining room in our small apartment for the fete.  Little did I know what I was getting myself into!  Decorating took a little longer than I had anticipated.  Perhaps it was the smell of the sweet treats that caused all the chaos, because chaos definitely ensued!  Lucy and Lola were antagonizing each other the entire time, it's a wonder I have any photos to share at all!  Ha!  After this soiree, I was completely exhausted!  Most of my time was spent preparing and then cleaning up after the (very short!) party ended!  I'm chalking it up to a learning experience for future birthday parties! Somehow I think (and hope!) throwing a party for Remington will be much easier than it will be for a dog and a cat!  This year was much more low-key.  Remington and I did sing Happy Birthday this morning before taking her for a walk!  We celebrated by not celebrating!  Just a few photos of Lucy on her special day.  Here are some favorites from the day from last year and this year!

Lucy waited so patiently for the festivities to begin!  ;)

Aren't these treats cute?  They look delicious - Lucy enjoyed them!
Actually, she just tried a few...I froze some for a special treat at a later date!

Picking out a favorite!

Finally!  It was time to taste some birthday cake!
She was so good and let me take a few photos of her before diving in!

Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Neither Lucy nor Lola wore the pretty pink hats I made for them!

Lucy checked for more treats!

One year later...Lucy is 2!  Happy Birthday to you!

This year, she simply enjoyed one of her favorite bones.

She really is a sweet dog, and she's really good with her little brother Remington.
And he just adores her too!

Ending with my favorite!

I can't help but laugh at myself for (1) planning a party for a cat and dog!
                                                                      (2) photographing it like it was a mini-wedding!
and (3) actually posting these!
As I mentioned, I was pregnant, and just wanted to spoil our sweet girl!
It really was fun...despite the antics between Lucy and Lola!
I do admit to rewarding both with several treats - besides Lucy's birthday pupcake - to keep the peace!

Have you ever had a party for a pet?  If so, I'd love to hear about it in the comments!

Happy Wednesday!

Simple Beauty

Winter is still here, as witnessed by this week's snowfall.  While out and about, I couldn't help but notice the simple beauty of snow on all of the tree branches.  This part of winter never gets old to me - the quiet, the peacefulness, the serenity of everything covered in a perfect blanket of snow:

As beautiful as winter can be, I am so ready for Spring!

Happy Thursday!
